How can I tell if my wheels are misaligned?

If you notice unusual or uneven tyre wear, it’s often a sign of a mechanical issue with your vehicle — such as incorrect alignment or problems with the steering or suspension. Suspension misalignment can cause rapid and irregular tyre wear, which may lead to costly repairs and negatively impact your vehicle’s handling and safety.

If you spot any uneven wear on your tyres, it’s important to have your vehicle inspected by a professional as soon as possible. Our experts at Wick Tyre can check your vehicle’s alignment (also known as tracking), diagnose any issues, and carry out the necessary corrections.

Michelin always recommends having any mechanical faults checked and repaired by qualified professionals, like our team here.

What happens if my wheels are misaligned?

Even a small misalignment — just 4mm (2mm per wheel) — can cause significant problems. For example, on a car with 15” wheels, this means the tyre is being pushed sideways by the equivalent of 8.4 metres (28 feet) for every mile travelled, leading to excessive wear on the tyre shoulders.

By ensuring your wheels are properly aligned, you can significantly extend the life of your tyres and improve your fuel efficiency by reducing rolling resistance.
